The Cotter Abacus and math card games in place of drill.
A hands-on math program created by Joan Cotter, built around the two-sided Cotter Abacus and card games. Children learn to see quantities in groups of fives and tens instead of counting one by one, and practice facts through games. The parent teaches from the lesson book, which sets out what to teach day by day, and practice comes largely through math card games in place of review worksheets.
